Rescue of the Blue Heron

This optical glass sculpture was created as an experimental R&D piece of art. For many years Michael Bokrosh has been interested in the seemingly “empty space” that lives in the middle of transparent optical glass; his medium of choice. Optical glass features a vast, pure open canvas for viewing Michael’s creative contributions.

Michael has explored various techniques and themes using 3D images floating inside his glass artwork. In Rescue of the Blue Heron, he used silk-screening and glass lamination processes to feature an image from sailing history seemingly floating inside the sculpture, a delightful 3D effect. One of a series of optical glass sailboats, the glass sculpture is made with two laminated, optical glass pieces cut and sculpted and adhered to a deep, cobalt blue glass wave. Underneath, the wave has a mirrored surface which reflects the colors that surround it.
